Ultra-Precise Engraving for Glass, Plastics, Metal, Acrylic and Delicate Materials
The xTool F2 Ultra UV is a professional 5W ultraviolet laser engraver designed for exceptionally detailed marking, surface engraving, glass engraving, dimensional embossing and precision cutting. Its 355 nm UV laser works differently from traditional diode, CO₂ and fiber lasers, allowing it to process an unusually broad range of materials with minimal heat damage.
Instead of relying primarily on heat to burn or melt the material, the F2 Ultra UV uses short-wavelength ultraviolet energy to break molecular bonds at the surface. This “cold processing” capability produces fine details, sharp edges and clean markings while greatly reducing scorching, melting, discoloration and material distortion.
That makes the F2 Ultra UV especially valuable for businesses engraving glass, crystal, plastics, acrylic, electronics, jewelry, promotional products, medical or industrial components, personalized gifts and other heat-sensitive materials.
A True Glass Engraving Specialist
Glass is one of the standout capabilities of the xTool F2 Ultra UV. The machine can create:
-
Precision surface engraving on glass
-
Two-dimensional images inside compatible glass
-
Three-dimensional designs inside compatible glass
-
Detailed photographs inside crystal
-
Text, logos and memorial designs
-
Dimensional surface embossing
-
Fine cutting of thin compatible glass
Using the included surface and inner-engraving lens systems, the F2 Ultra UV can create designs on the exterior of glass or focus the laser inside the material to produce suspended images without engraving the outer surface.
Compatible K9 optical crystal and other high-quality, uniform glass materials generally provide the best results for inner engraving. Tempered, laminated and deeply tinted glass may not be suitable because of internal stress, coatings, interlayers or excessive laser absorption.
The inner-engraving area measures up to 70 × 70 mm, with supported inner-engraving files including 3D models, photographs, text, vectors and bitmap artwork.
Excellent for Plastics and Heat-Sensitive Materials
Many plastics are difficult to engrave with conventional lasers. A CO₂ or diode laser may melt the surface, create excessive residue, distort the part or produce an uneven edge. The 355 nm UV wavelength can be absorbed by a much wider variety of plastics, making the F2 Ultra UV an excellent choice for marking:
Depending on the material, the UV laser can create dark markings, light markings, frosted surfaces, fine textures or engraved recesses without the heavy melting commonly associated with higher-heat laser processes.
Because plastics vary significantly in chemical composition, color and additives, a test grid should always be completed before processing production pieces. Proper ventilation and filtration are also essential, and materials that release hazardous fumes must not be processed unless their laser compatibility has been confirmed.
Fine Metal Marking and Engraving
The F2 Ultra UV can produce permanent, highly detailed markings on many metals, including:
-
Stainless steel
-
Aluminum
-
Anodized aluminum
-
Brass
-
Copper
-
Silver
-
Gold
-
Platinum
-
Titanium
-
Coated metals
-
Painted metals
-
Jewelry alloys
It is well suited for engraving serial numbers, identification codes, logos, fine text, photographs, jewelry, tools, tags, data plates and intricate decorative patterns.
The F2 Ultra UV is designed primarily for precision metal marking and surface engraving—not cutting metal. Customers who need deep, fast metal engraving, reliable color marking or metal cutting should consider a MOPA fiber laser or an xTool MetalFab system.
UV color marking on metal is limited and may not be as stable or repeatable as the color engraving produced by a dedicated MOPA laser.

Materials the xTool F2 Ultra UV Can Cut
Although the F2 Ultra UV is best known as a precision engraver, it can also cut selected nonmetal materials.
Compatible cutting materials include:
-
Wood
-
Acrylic
-
Selected plastics
-
Leather
-
Fabric
-
Paper
-
Cardstock
-
Thin compatible glass
Under xTool laboratory testing, the F2 Ultra UV has demonstrated cutting capabilities of up to:
-
15 mm wood
-
12 mm acrylic
-
1 mm glass
Maximum cutting thicknesses generally require multiple passes and carefully optimized settings. Actual capacity will vary according to the material’s composition, density, color, quality, focus, artwork, pass count and desired edge finish.
Because the F2 Ultra UV uses a galvo laser system, cut edges may develop a slight bevel, particularly toward the outer edges of the work area. It is ideal for detailed shapes and smaller precision-cut components but is not intended to replace a high-powered CO₂ laser for frequent production cutting of thick wood or acrylic.
The F2 Ultra UV does not cut sheet metal.
Dimensional Engraving and Laser Embossing
In addition to standard flat engraving, the F2 Ultra UV can create dimensional surface effects by engraving different areas of a design at different depths.
Compatible embossing materials include:
-
Glass
-
Acrylic
-
Wood
-
Silicone
-
Ceramic
-
Selected plastics
This capability can be used to produce raised-looking textures, dimensional photographs, relief-style artwork, decorative patterns, molds, stamps and highly detailed product surfaces.
Metal is not supported for the machine’s automated embossing process.
High-Speed Galvo Processing
The F2 Ultra UV uses a high-speed galvanometer system rather than moving a conventional laser head across the workpiece. This allows the laser beam to move at speeds of up to 15,000 mm per second, making it capable of quickly processing detailed graphics, serial numbers, text, barcodes and repeated production designs.
The galvo system is particularly useful for:
Dual 48MP Camera Positioning
The F2 Ultra UV uses a dual-camera positioning system to help users place designs accurately on their materials. The cameras assist with material recognition, layout and detailed alignment, making it easier to engrave small products, irregularly positioned items and batches of products.
For transparent, mirrored or highly reflective materials, manual focusing or direct material-height entry may provide better results than automatic measurement.
Intelligent Autofocus and Curved-Surface Processing
For standard surface engraving, the machine combines camera positioning and laser measurement to detect material height and adjust the Z-axis automatically.
The F2 Ultra UV can also measure and process selected curved surfaces. This makes it possible to place artwork more consistently across moderately contoured products and irregular objects.
For cylindrical, spherical and round products, the machine is compatible with optional xTool rotary attachments, including the RA3 and selected RA2 configurations.
With the appropriate rotary attachment, users can engrave items such as:
Large Surface-Engraving Area
The standard surface-engraving area measures up to 200 × 200 mm, providing room for individual products, detailed plaques, small production batches and larger artwork than many compact galvo engravers can accommodate.
The maximum supported height for standard flat-object processing is approximately 150 mm, allowing the machine to handle thicker objects and products when properly positioned.
An optional Auto Streamline Conveyor can expand production capabilities for longer materials and repeated batch processing. The conveyor is used with the surface-engraving lens and cannot be used simultaneously with the inner-glass-engraving configuration.
