xTool Air Dryer for MetalFab
An Essential Component for Every Compressed-Air MetalFab Setup
The xTool Air Dryer is not simply an optional compressor accessory. It is a necessary part of any compressed-air supply system used with the xTool MetalFab Laser Welder and CNC Cutter.
Air compressors naturally introduce moisture, microscopic particles and, depending on the compressor, traces of oil into the air supply. Sending untreated compressed air directly into the MetalFab can interfere with cutting performance, contaminate the protective lens and place critical components at risk.
The xTool Air Dryer conditions the compressed air before it reaches your MetalFab, helping provide the clean, dry and consistent airflow needed for reliable metal cutting.
Why Your MetalFab Air Compressor Needs an Air Dryer
Compressed air may look clean, but it can contain water vapor, condensation, dust, oil and other contaminants. These contaminants can travel through the air line and reach the cutting head.
xTool warns that if water enters the line, cutting results may deteriorate and water droplets may appear on the lens protector. When this occurs, xTool instructs users to stop cutting, verify that the air dryer is operating properly and replace the affected lens protector before resuming work.
For this reason, we strongly recommend that every customer using an air compressor—whether it is the xTool Air Compressor or another compatible compressor—install the xTool Air Dryer as part of the system.
Do not connect untreated shop air directly to your MetalFab.
HyperPure™ Triple-Stage Filtration
The xTool Air Dryer uses a three-stage, industrial-grade filtration system to remove moisture, oil and airborne contaminants from the compressed-air supply.
According to xTool, the filtration system delivers:
This highly filtered air helps support cleaner cuts, more consistent performance and better protection for the MetalFab’s cutting head and lens protector.
Supports High-Performance Metal Cutting
When paired with the xTool Air Compressor and SaveGas™ nozzle, the Air Dryer helps create a compressed-air system capable of supporting demanding cutting applications.
xTool reports that this combination can produce approximately 87 PSI of working pressure and cut materials such as:
Actual cutting capability may vary according to the MetalFab model, material, nozzle, air pressure, settings and operating conditions.
Compatible With the xTool Air Compressor or a Suitable Shop Compressor
The xTool Air Dryer can be used with the xTool Air Compressor or incorporated into a compatible customer-supplied compressor system.
This makes it an excellent choice for MetalFab owners who already have a shop compressor but still need the filtration and moisture control required for laser metal cutting.
The Air Dryer uses an M10 quick-connect fitting for 10 mm air hose, matching the connection used by the xTool MetalFab system.
Customer-supplied compressors must meet xTool’s required pressure, airflow and air-quality specifications. The Air Dryer does not increase the capability of an undersized compressor; it conditions the air supplied by the compressor.
Compact, Shop-Friendly Design
Industrial compressed-air treatment systems can take up a considerable amount of floor space. xTool engineered its compressor and dryer system to provide industrial-grade air treatment in a more compact format suitable for workshops, studios, schools and small fabrication businesses.
The Air Dryer fits neatly into a complete MetalFab workstation without requiring a large industrial air-treatment installation.
United States Electrical Requirements
For installations in the United States and Canada, the xTool Air Dryer requires:
The Air Dryer plugs into a standard-voltage electrical supply, while the xTool Air Compressor has separate 200–240V power requirements.
Always verify the electrical label on the unit and follow applicable electrical codes before installation.
Proper Startup and Shutdown
For correct operation, xTool specifies the following sequence:
Startup
-
Turn on the Air Dryer first.
-
Turn on the air compressor.
-
Allow the system to build pressure and begin supplying clean, dry air.
-
Confirm proper pressure before operating the MetalFab.
Shutdown
-
Turn off the air compressor first.
-
Turn off the Air Dryer.
The compressor is typically set to 1.0 MPa in Fast mode when used with the MetalFab system.
Important Purchase Notice
An air dryer is required whenever compressed air is used as the gas supply for the xTool MetalFab.
Purchase this Air Dryer if:
-
You are purchasing the xTool Air Compressor separately.
-
You already own a compatible shop compressor.
-
Your MetalFab package did not include an Air Dryer.
-
You are building a compressed-air alternative to bottled nitrogen or argon.
-
You want to help prevent moisture, oil and dust from entering your MetalFab cutting system.
An air compressor supplies pressure. The Air Dryer makes that compressed air suitable for use with the MetalFab.
